Feeling post-election let down?

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It's been a long election season. This race was especially tight, and a lot of us got emotionally involved, so what can you do if you feel let down?

Emory University psychologist Jared DeFife says if Mitt Romney was your man and you don't even want to think about the next four years, it may help to unplug for awhile.

"Unless you're watching FOX 5 coverage, you might want to disconnect a little bit from all that information overload," DeFife said.

DeFife says to refocus on the good stuff in your life that has nothing to do with politics.

"Reconnect with pets, family, friends, activities and hobbies that you enjoy and care about," he said.  "And we know that thinking about and expressing things we are grateful for can really go a long way to help easing our resentments, easing our stress and feeling better about our lives."

We can all take a few pointers from Romney's concession speech about sportsmanship and grace. But if it all left you feeling powerless, DeFife says harness that energy and do something.

"Go out and volunteer and try and make a difference in other people's lives, a positive difference," DeFife said. "You don't want to be bitter. You want to still believe in your beliefs in a positive way, but realize that we do all have to get along with people we might not always agree with."

The one thing we all can agree on is the relief that it's over -- at least until the next round.
