The state has released new records in the investigation into the death of Trayvon Martin.
George Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder of the teenager in the February shooting and has pleaded not guilty. Zimmerman's attorney says the records could have important information pertaining to the case and that is why he has been asking for them.
It was two weeks ago when defense attorney Mark O'Mara went before a judge saying the state had failed to give him documents from the FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Department of Justice. He said he was being blocked from the information and deserved to get it.
Prosecutors argued it wasn't their job to get the records, but the judge ordered the departments to hand over the information. On Thursday, around 15 different witness statements from both the FBI and the FDLE were released. Martin's cell phone records, as well as DNA data, tracking forms and images were also handed over.
While FOX 35 was notified about the information, it will be another day or two before the records are released.
Zimmerman's trial is scheduled for June 10, 2013.
