MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (WJBK) -- A 21-year-old man has been accused of faking his identity in order to join a high school football team.

Police say Lansing-native James Nash enrolled under the alias 'Javier Jones' and pretended to be only 17 years old when he transferred to Mount Pleasant High School earlier this year. Authorities were given a tip that a football player may not be legitimate.

School officials say it turned out Nash forged documents needed to get into school.

FOX 47 reports Nash was expelled this week and been banned from school property.

Officers handed over their findings to Ingham County prosecutors to pursue possible criminal charges.
