Another alligator found in Suffolk County

MYFOXNY.COM -

Suffolk County ASPCA authorities have found another alligator, making this the ninth reptile found in the county in recent weeks.

Authorities say the alligator was found in a window well of a home on Hampton Street in Southampton. Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said the alligator would not survive in cold weather.

"These are only the ones we know of," Gross said. It is unfair to the animal and poses a dangerous risk to the public by releasing these reptiles."

The abandoned alligator was taken to the Star Foundation and Gross said the individual responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Authorities ask anyone with information should contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-SPCA (7722).
