Hostess strike may cause Twinkie shortage

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

You could soon see a shortage of Twinkies around the country due to a strike.

Workers at plants in a dozen cities walked out Friday in a dispute over an 8% pay cut.

Hostess is currently in bankruptcy and is cutting salaries as part an effort to restructure.

The company is trying to hire replacement workers, but the walkout is disrupting production and distribution of several products.

The company has already closed plants in Seattle, St. Louis and Cincinnati because of strikes there. Hostess said it regrets the decision, but warned this would happen if facilities were no longer producing and delivering products.

The CEO said he'll shut down the entire company if the strike continues and its financial outlook does not improve.
