Ballots for Orange Commission to be hand counted

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles on Monday evening announced that a hand count would be required in the race for County Commission District 3.

The Orange County Canvassing Board completed the machine recount of all 39 precincts within the district.  The results show that Pete Clarke and Lui Damiani locked in a dead heat, with 67 votes separating the two candidates.  Clarke received 33,218 votes, or 50.05 percent, and Damiani received 33,154 votes, or 49.95 percent.

Because these results remain within .25 percent of the total ballots cast, a manual recount of overvotes and undervotes will commence at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning in compliance with state law.
