Family, friends gather to remember slain father of 7

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- The daughters of a man gunned down outside a Detroit auto repair shop are asking the public's help to find their father's killer.

Family and friends gathered at St. Thomas Church Monday to remember the life of Sami Hannawa. Police say the 49-year-old father of seven was shot while checking on a vehicle last month at the Great Lakes transmission shop on Wyoming on the city's west side.

Witnesses say the victim was approached by two men who shot him in the chest and then fled the scene without taking any of Hannawa's belongings.

Police do not have any suspects in custody.

Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.

Donations to a scholarship fund set up for Hannawa's children can be made payable to the Chaldean Community Foundation-Samir Hannawa and sent to the Chaldean Community Foundation's offices at 29850 Northwestern Highway, Suite 250, Southfield, MI 48034.
