Sky Train connection available in early 2013

In just a couple of months -- you'll have a new way to get to Sky Harbor Airport. The Sky Train. It's free and will hopefully save you a lot of time and hassle.

When it's up and running, the city of Phoenix estimates 7,000 people will ride the Sky Train every single day to and from Sky Harbor.

"I go to the airport a lot so it will definitely be something I use a lot and its nice because it's free, that definitely helps," says traveler Leon Jordan.

For the first time Monday, we got to go inside the main hub with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. It's on 44th Street and Washington.

You can get dropped off there, connect from the light rail, or get picked up from the east economy lot at the airport.

On the second floor you can check your bags, print your boarding pass, and on the third floor you catch the Sky Train to terminal 4. Terminals 2 and 3 will connect eventually.

"Sky Harbor is one of the busiest airports in the nation and world and it's really important to make it easy for people to come and go," says airport spokesperson Deborah Ostreicher.

Hopefully this will help save money on cabs and parking.

Sky train will be open every day, 24 hours a day, and it's free. Trains will pick up people during peak times every 3 minutes.

The project, 10 years in the making, is finally a reality.

It took over a billion dollars to build the sky train. They paid for it by using airport revenues and passenger fees. No tax dollars were spent on the project.
