ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A suspect in the slaying of a witness who was expected to testify against him in an Ocoee home invasion was charged Monday with first degree murder in the witness' death.
Orlando Police say Bessman Okafor shot and killed Alex Zaldivar, execution-style, on September 10, 2012, in the rented home on Bernadino Drive. At the time, Okafor was out on bail awaiting trial in a home invasion that took place at the same house in May.
Okafor's girlfriend, Sherria Gordon, was charged with principal to first-degree murder and accessory to murder.
"She has not been truthful to detectives and attorneys while under oath" during the investigation, Capt. John Mina said during the news conference Tuesday at Orlando Police headquarters.
"Okafor and Gordon did not act alone, and there will be other arrests," he said.
Alex Zaldivar's father, Rafael, tearfully addressed the media.
"What they did to him was incomprehensible," he said. "I will get justice for my son."
