Survival story: Dog buried alive, shot twice

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Animal services investigators are trying to find out who is behind a disturbing case of animal cruelty.

Phoebe seems happy now, but last month someone buried her up to her neck in the ground and shot her twice in the head.

She was then left for dead in the Clair Mel area of Hillsborough County. Amazingly, she has survived and is recovering.

"This is a sick person or persons who did this," said Pam Perry of animal services. "They did this to a dog. They'll do it to another dog, a cat, a child, a person, a friend."

Investigators want to find who could have done such a thing.

Phoebe was also very malnourished, but she's putting on weight and doing better now.

There is a reward for information that leads to an arrest. Call Crime Stoppers if you know anything.
