WESTLAND, Mich. (WJBK) --  It has become a beloved holiday tradition in metro Detroit.  The annual Wayne County Lightfest along Hines Drive kicked off Thursday night in Westland.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano was on hand to turn on the lights and joined on stage by Santa Claus and Fox 2's Rich Luterman.  Following a ceremony where Ficano threw the switch, a fireworks display filled the sky.  Click on the video player above to watch.

The Wayne County Lightfest is open nightly from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. through December 31 with the exception of Christmas Day.

The county says there are 45 animated displays and more than a million lights on a stretch of road spanning over four miles.

There is a fee of $5 per car.

You'll find the entrance to the Lightfest on Merriman Road in Westland between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue.
