Food stamp system goes down, millions can't use cards
By The Associated Press
Millions of Floridians can't use their foods stamps because of a technical glitch.
The Department of Children and Families said a national outage Friday at JPMorgan Chase is preventing about 3.6 million recipients from being able to use their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) food stamp debit cards to buy groceries.
EBT cards are used by recipients of cash and food assistance for purchases in approved stores.
Crews are working on the outage, which began around 7 a.m. The agency couldn't estimate when the outage might be fixed.
Stores can choose to run a manual processing of up to $40. Walmart stores can also process manual transactions of up to $100.
