Police are searching for the father who took his two children from their mother in her Bronx home at gunpoint before fleeing early Sunday morning.
Authorities issued an Amber alert before the missing kids were found alone and unharmed in the carjacked vehicle in Harlem around 12:00 p.m.
29-year-old Fitz Edwards got into an argument with the mother of his children, 5-year-old son Nahzir Edwards and 2-year-old Mlyliah Edwards, around 5:00 a.m. on Barker Avenue, near Laconia Avenue in the Allerton section.
Police say Edwards pulled a gun on the mother and set her fifth-floor apartment on fire before fleeing with the two children. The two children were barefoot and dressed only in Pampers.
Edwards walked approximately three blocks to Magenta Street and Bronx Boulevard where he then carjacked at gunpoint a gray 2005 Honda Accord, according to police. The driver of that vehicle was not injured.
Edwards then drove off in an unknown direction with the two children before the vehicle, with the two children unharmed, was found by officers near East 128th Street and Park Avenue.
Police say Edwards has black, braided hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 6'00", 170 lbs., with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket. The suspect is believed to be armed with a handgun.
Anyone with information in regard to this individual is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
