(FOX 13) Tampa Police arrested a 49-year-old registered sex offender in connection with the shooting death of an unidentified man Saturday night at the University Oakwoods Apartment complex.

According to a Tampa Police Department report, one of the department's officers was stopped for a traffic signal at the intersection of North 15th St. and East Fowler when Carlos Ruben Rivas approached his vehicle just before 10 p.m. and blurted out that he had just killed someone at a nearby apartment.

Several TPD units were dispatched to 1254 East 113th Ave., where they located a deceased white man.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Rivas is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail. He is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of grand theft. He is scheduled to make his first appearance before a judge Monday.
