3-year-old boy hospitalized after SUV backs over him

Posted: Updated:

A 3-year-old boy remains hospitalized this morning after an SUV backed over him Sunday.

The boy was playing outside with his 8-year-old sister at a home off Canna Drive, near Millenia Boulevard and Oak Ridge Road, when the driver hit him, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

"He was conscious; his arms were moving. It seems he had a cut on the eye and lacerations on the side of his head," witness Tim Cutter said.

Troopers say the child's uncle was supposed to be watching the children but was inside at the time of the accident.

The driver charged with improper backing and having an expired drivers license. The boy is expected to recover.
