Facebook page dedicated to violent school brawls

Posted: Updated:

Vicious school fights are nothing new, but having them posted online for everyone's entertainment is something one valley school is battling.

You don't have to be on the campus of Barry Goldwater High School to see the hair pulling -- punching --and throwdowns.

It's become Facebook fodder for the masses -- but school officials are not happy with the brawls becoming internet entertainment.

Students say they've seen fights where kids eye sockets were damaged, jaws were broken, and tongue rings were ripped out.

The district says the fights this year aren't different from other years, but they are having to go off campus and online to combat the problem.

These Barry Goldwater students say they see vicious fights at least every other week on school property.

"It was pretty horrifying to see, I'm not going to lie," says a student.

Now, they're seeing these fights pop up on public Facebook pages. The page highlights high school fights across the country -- along with other inappropriate photos and videos.

Two Deer Valley School District officials told us they're aware of this video and others. They plan to find out who's posting the video and ask them to remove it, something they've done before.

"It's been happening for a while so no one really pays attention to it anymore, it's like oh a fight happened, ok whatever," says student Emilio Romero.

But employers and even colleges are paying attention, turning to social media sites to investigate applicants. This stuff lives online forever.

Not only does the district ask people to remove fight footage from social media sites, they're educating students on the long term consequences.

Barry Goldwater High School also has off-duty police officers patrolling school grounds in an effort to stop these kinds of fights.
