ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Hundreds of people stood in line in downtown Orlando on Tuesday morning to receive one of 1,5000 free turkeys for their Thanksgiving feast.
The line formed around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in front of the Pendas Law Firm, which has been giving out free Thanksgiving turkeys for the past four years.
By 9 a.m., the line was three blocks long, and police had closed a lane of Colonial Drive near the business.
"This is phenomenal," said Lou Pendas of the law firm.
"Normally we give away 1,000 turkeys, but the event has grown so large that we end up turning away hundreds of people. This year, we decided to give away 1,500 turkeys."
The law firm begins to prepare for the event six months in advance.
"It just gives me a great deal of joy to give back to the community. I grew up in Orlando. This is my hometown. There's a great deal of pride that we have to be able to do this."
