A man died after he was shot "point-blank" in the chest during a confrontation between two groups of men Monday night in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood, authorities said.
James Holman, 32, was hanging out with some friends on the sidewalk near his apartment building in the 6000 block of South Michigan Avenue when four other men approached them about 8:30 p.m., police said.
Someone in the rival group opened fire and hit Holman in the chest and the right forearm, police said, adding that no one else was injured. A police source said the man was shot "point blank" in the chest.
Holman was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:54 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police have made no arrests as Area Central detectives investigate.
