Longwood police officers and emergency technicians with Seminole County Fire Rescue responded to a shooting late Tuesday afternoon which left a man seriously injured.
Officers said a 41-year-old SunRail contractor was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center after he was attacked along some railroad tracks near Ronald Reagan and North Street.
The irony is that the contractor was just trying to protect his would-be assailant when police said he approached a man sitting on the tracks to advise him that he needed to move to a safer place. The suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money from the victim, who then tried to push the gun away. The gun discharged and the victim was shot on the right side of his body, where he sustained a non life-threatening wound.
A suspect is being sought in this case, described as a white man in his 30s who is unshaven with shaggy brown hair. If you have any information, contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
