Tips for Arizonans flying for Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:

Holiday travelers are jamming Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and the parking lots are filling up fast.

AAA estimates about 52,000 Arizonans will fly to their Thanksgiving destination this year.

If you're traveling through Sky Harbor Airport, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Be sure to get to the airport at least two hours before your flight is supposed to leave, especially if you're parking in an economy lot of checking bags.

All liquid and gels must be in 3 oz containers or less to go through security. Larger amount of medically necessary liquids may be allowed depending on who your TSA screener is.

Food items like pies and cakes can be carried on but might need further inspection. If you aren't sure if a food is considered a liquid or gel, it's best to pack it in your checked baggage.

A Sky Harbor spokeswoman says the airport's west and east economy lots had filled up by noon Wednesday.

There still are open spaces in the east economy garage and in terminal garages.

Sky Harbor is offering a special coupon for 40 percent off terminal garage rates through Nov. 28. You can download and print the coupon on or show it on your mobile device to pay $15 a day.

The economy lots charge between $9 and $11 a day.
