Chasing Perfection: More Teens Admit To Using Steroids - FOX 35 News Orlando

Alarming new numbers show more and more teens admit to doing it, but the "it" isn't what you might think.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one million kids in the U.S. have admitted to using steroids, either to improve their athletic performance or to achieve a better looking body.

When it comes to chasing perfection, there can be a heavy price to pay.

Ed Kaye got the jolt of his life just two months before his 21st birthday when he suffered a medical emergency no one saw coming.

"At the age of 20, I had a heart attack, ended up in the hospital for two weeks," Kaye told FOX 29's Thomas Drayton.

Kaye says he had to find a way to explain why he had suffered a heart attack at such a young age.

It became a dark secret that began when he was just 17, and like so many young athletes, a time when he wanted to be perfect.

"I wanted to look bigger, I wanted to be more muscular," Kaye said.

He says the first time he took testosterone he was scared and even had the kid he bought it from show him where to inject it.

Kaye says a lot of high school and college athletes have used steroids for the edge.

After using steroids for the next several years, Kaye says he eventually became moody and became depressed.

At the age of 30, he is now teaming up with other top trainers to promote natural living, not only in the gym, but also in the kitchen.
