PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Phoenix man will spend the rest of his life in prison for repeatedly raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 26-year-old Mario Chavez-Tavena was sentenced Wednesday to five consecutive life sentences plus an additional 10 years in prison.
Chavez-Tavena was convicted in July on five counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count of molestation of a child.
Authorities say Chavez-Tavena's wife put a tape recorder in their bedroom in May 2009 to determine if her husband was cheating on her.
She later listened to the recording and heard Chavez-Tavena call her daughter into the bedroom followed by noises she believed were her husband having sex with the child.
Authorities say forensic examination of Chavez-Tavena's stepdaughter produced DNA evidence supporting the rape charges.
