$30,000 worth of equipment stolen from Scottsdale church

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Scottsdale police are on the hunt for a church burglar who made off with some pricey equipment.

The church is set back off of Dixileta and Scottsdale Road and investigators say they think the thieves may have driven through the desert to get there Saturday morning.

Church members say the thieves took audio and lighting boards, computers and TV monitors. They say they also took their time, unscrewing and disconnecting cables.

The pastor's guitar stand is empty and cables laid exposed, nothing hooked to them.

Scott Bailey, president of Desert Mission United Methodist Church, came in to find $30,000 worth of music and audio equipment were missing from the sanctuary on Saturday.

It's disappointing, we put our good faith in everybody," said Bailey

Investigators believe the thieves may have driven up to the church's covered entry way and shattered the security glass on the door.

No alarm ever sounded.

"The glass sensors should trigger the alarm system," said Bailey.

With no microphones and only a piano for music, Sunday service will go on as planned.

Church members will move forward but admit it's a set back.

"It's tough times and churches like everyone are struggling for every dollar you can get to do what we're here to do," said Bailey.

Services are at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday. The church does not have surveillance cameras.
