The 15-year-old girl who was found unconscious in the lobby of her aunt's apartment building in the Bronx was strangled to death, according to police.

A medical examiner performed an autopsy on Destiny Sanchez and it revealed she was killed by a compression on her neck and smothering.

The New York Post said Sanchez' sister tried to revive her performing CPR after her brother found her unconscious and unresponsive around 8:00 a.m. Friday.

Police say 34-year-old Luis Vega is a suspect in her murder. Vega, who is the brother of Sanchez' stepmother, was out drinking with Sanchez before she was found dead. Vega was charged with endangering the welfare of a child since she was a minor.

Charges against Vega were likely to be upgraded now that her death was ruled a homicide, according to police.

Sanchez would have turned 16 on November 30.
