Investigators with the Humane Society in Lehigh County on Monday night confirmed that animals found dead inside of a bag are likely the remains of foxes.
Investigators tell FOX 29 further DNA testing will be done but it will take a while for the results to come back.
"It was horrible." That was the description from Humane Society investigators after a woman walking her dog near a park in Lower Macungie made the gruesome discovery of a bag loaded with the remains of 11 dead animals that had been skinned.
Investigators for the Lehigh County Humane Society and the Pennsylvania State Police at Fogelsville are now looking into the deaths.
"We don't know yet," Wiggins added. "We're just gonna wait on testing to see what we find."
The discovery has touched off a storm of outrage among animal lovers groups in the Lehigh Valley.
"It's gruesome, it's beyond simple everyday, nuisance, animal abuse," said David Lee of the Pitbull Awareness Club.
"This is someone with severe deep rooted problems."
Lee's organization is now taking pledges for a reward he hopes will generate leads for investigators as they try to determine who might have done this and why.
"To me it almost seems like whoever is doing it wants to get the recognition whether it's positive or negative," Lee said.
Wiggins says this is the second time in two weeks an animal has been found dead and skinned in the Lehigh Valley. The Humane Society and state troopers are trying to figure out if the incidents are connected.
"If it is wildlife, depending upon what kind of season," Wiggins explained. "It could possibly legally be done, but at the same time don't dump it by a park where people can find it. Just dispose of the body properly."
"It's disturbing to say the least," Lee said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police at Fogelsville or the Humane Society in Allentown.
