The 16-year-old boy who fatally shot himself in the face at the Orange City library stole the gun from a high school coach's car a day before the shooting, according to a police report released Tuesday.

Yardeh Gautier and friend Ajai Blakely, 19, were inside the Orange City library on November 15, 2012, when Blakely told police Gautier was attempting to rub the sides of the gun and it accidentally went off, hitting Gautier in the eye.

Gautier died a few days later.

Police say Gautier stole the gun from an unlocked car belonging to Pine Ridge High School Coach Reginald Odom at an apartment complex in Orange City.

According to police, Blakely said he acted as a lookout while Gautier stole the gun. He said Gautier had the gun at University High School the day of the shooting and that they left early, fired it in nearby woods and went to the library.

Also in the report released Tuesday: The gun was stolen in a burglary in Deltona 10 years ago, and Odom got the gun from one of his parents, who is now deceased.

Burglary charges will be filed against Blakely.
