COCOA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A Cocoa special needs teacher accused of physically abusing two students has bonded out of the Brevard County Jail.
Alison Workman, 35, is charged with two counts of felony child abuse.
Brevard County Sheriff's Office spokesman Todd Goodyear said an arrest warrant was the result of a nearly month-long investigation into Workman's classroom behavior. He said that two 4-year-old victims complained to other adults that Workman, "did things to them they didn't like."
Goodyear said the kids had scratches and other markings but had a tough time describing everything, because they are cognitively delayed, special needs students.
The students attended special needs VPK class at Mila Elementary.
The Department of Children and Families investigated, Workman was put on administrative leave in early November and the investigation continued. Workman turned herself in to agents after the issuance of the arrest warrant.
"We do have statements from some volunteers who claim to have witnessed the behavior," said Goodyear. "They said it looked more like frustration, than what would be appropriate for corrective action."
Goodyear said Workman had impeccable references upon her hire and has a clean prior history.
