CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A couple that loves Twitter is said to have named their newborn girl Hashtag.
The new mom and dad supposedly posted a photo of their baby with an announcement, saying: "Hashtag Jameson was born at 10 o'clock last night" and the website, awkwardmessages.com, put up a copy of the post.
Though some wonder if it's a hoax --there are no details about who the family actually is or where they're from--similar examples have been verified.
An Israeli couple, last year, named their baby girl Like -- as in when you "like" something on Facebook. Of course, Like Adler has her own Facebook page. Her father was quoted as saying the "like" button is one of the most famous icons of our times, similar to how biblical figures were dominant icons and the namesakes of babies. He also said that "like" is the modern equivalent of the word "love."
A couple in Egypt last year, named their daughter Facebook" after the social media site played a key role in organizing people to rally against their government.
Several Americans have been named "ESPN" (pronounced Espin) in honor of the cable sports channel.
What are your thoughts on pop culture names like this? Are they shallow and inappropriate, or a proper reflection of the "icons" of our times? Sound off on our Talker and send us a tweet @Fox32News.
