Dunwoody police say one of their own officers shot and killed a man after he sped through an intersection and hit several cars near Perimeter Mall on Wednesday night.
DUNWOODY, Ga. -
Dunwoody police say one of their own shot and killed a man they say was driving erratically through traffic on Wednesday night, and now the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting.
Investigators say officers saw a vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Bradley Almy of Marietta, driving erratically in the parking lot at 41 Perimeter Center East. One of the officers tried to pull Almy over but he refused to stop and a pursuit began.
They say that during the pursuit, Almy refused to stop and drove recklessly through parking lots and several streets in the area.
According to police, at Ashford-Dunwoody Road and Perimeter Center East, Almy rammed several cars. Two officers approached Almy on foot and attempted to stop him from fleeing again. Almy continued to strike other cars by moving back and forth. Fearing for his safety, the public and other officers, Sgt. Jason Dove fired one shot at Almy, hitting him.
Police say Almy's vehicle kept going and struck more cars, and continued through traffic before turning onto Perimeter Center East. Almy's vehicle struck a light pole in front of the Savannah Park apartments before being stopped.
Dunwoody police say officers detained Almy, and applied first aid until medical crews arrived at the scene. Almy was then taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured.
Sgt. Dove has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
