B.J. Upton Signs 5-Year Deal With Braves

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

One of the Phillies offseason needs is to find a new centerfielder.

One of the bigger names on the free agent market has decided to sign with one of the Phils' biggest rivals.

It was bad news for fans who were hoping Ruben Amaro Jr. would sign free agent centerfielder B.J. Upton.

He signed with Atlanta for five years at $75 million.

Upton hit 28 homeruns last year for the Tampa Rays. Don't be too upset, though. He only hit .246, he was 130th in baseball in on base percentage, and he ranks sixth in strikeouts, with 169 last year.

Other free agent centerfielders still on the market include Angel Pagan from the Giants, Josh Hamilton from the Rangers, and former Phillie and Dodger Shane Victorino.
