Separate fires at central NY farms kill 270 cows

ANNSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Fire investigators are trying to determine the causes of separate fires at two central New York farms that have each killed more than 100 cows.

Local media outlets report that a fire broke out late Tuesday night in a barn at a dairy farm in the Oneida County town of Annsville, 30 miles northeast of Syracuse.

Fire officials say about 150 cows died in the blaze, which burned into early Wednesday morning before firefighters got it under control.

Authorities believe the fire started in the barn's milk house.

The blaze occurred three days after a barn fire in South Worcester in neighboring Otsego County killed 120 cows. That fire was reported Saturday night and wasn't declared under control until the following afternoon.
