ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Orange County sheriff's deputies are warning shoppers to stay alert to avoid being a victim of crime. This comes after two women were robbed in the parking lot of one of Orlando's popular malls.
"We were both screaming, and that's when he said, 'My knife is very sharp! Quit screaming!'" said Lynn Girling. She and her daughter in the Florida Mall parking lot the day after Black Friday. "I looked at it, and it was a very large knife. It was like a hunting knife. It was about six inches long, the blade was over an inch wide," she said. "That changed everything. I stopped struggling."
The two women also gave the man about 52 dollars in cash, when he demanded money. When the robber asked for a credit card, Lynn's 28-year-old daughter gave him an airline card instead, with the wrong pin number. She also turned over her driver's license, as the man asked. She didn't mind doing so, because she doesn't even live in Florida.
"The whole time I'm thinking, 'No! No! No! No!' but she did what she thought she had to save me," Girling said of her daughter.
Investigators released a composite sketch of the suspect on Thursday and are asking for shoppers to remain vigilant. If you have any information about this robbery, contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
