EUSTIS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A Christmas tree farm in Eustis not only allows customers to pick their own live tree, it allows them to cut it down themselves.
Fox 35's David Martin visited Santa's Christmas Tree Forest, which features 14 acres of choose-and-cut trees of all sizes.
"Some homes get 20-foot trees in it," owner Jack Ewing said.
For those who bring their trees home on top of a vehicle, Ewing recommends wrapping the tree in a sheet so it doesn't get windburn. He also recommends giving it a fresh cut on the bottom if it doesn't get into water within a couple of hours. He says there's no need for an additive in the water -- plain water is fine.
Santa's Christmas Tree Forest also features hay rides, a zip line, a giant bounce pillow, a wooden maze, kettle corn and cook-your-own hot dogs.
The tree farm also participates in the Trees for Troops program. Customers can pay half price for a 5-to-7-foot tree that will be donated and delivered free of charge to a military family.
Santa's Christmas Tree Forest is open Tuesday through Sunday at 35317 Huff Road in Eustis. For more information, go to santaschristmastreeforest.com or call 352-357-9863.
