SAVANNAH, Ga. -
Savannah city officials announced three hours of free parking on Thursdays and Fridays to try luring more holiday shoppers downtown.
WTOC-TV reports that 177 people were mistakenly told to pay $5 to park at garages in Savannah's downtown historic district on Thursday.
Brett Bell, a city spokesman, told the television station a parking attendant made an honest mistake, and that refunds will be distributed to anyone who was mistakenly asked to pay.
Officials ask downtown visitors who paid to park Thursday to present their ticket stubs for a cash or check refund.
