PAULSBORO, N.J. -
More than one hundred Paulsboro residents are spending the
next few nights in hotels after being evacuated from their homes.
It follows a Friday night spike in chemical testing levels
after a Conrail train derailed over the Mantua Creek.
Several cars
collapsed into the creek with one breaching, leaking out the hazardous chemical
vinyl chloride.
"It's very frustrating," said Vincent Williams. He is staying at the Holiday Inn in Logan
Township for the time being. He has a
family of five to look after as well.
Others like Cindy Trout had to move from one hotel to
another after being told her voucher would only cover one night.
"It's just not right," she said.
She went back to the Paulsboro fire department where Conrail
officials gave her another voucher for another hotel, with no end date listed.
In the meantime others like Kimmi Noel wonder why they have
not been evacuated at all. She works at
a Heritages convenience store not far from the accident scene, and says she
hasn't been feeling right.
"Headache, my eyes have been burning," she said of her
symptoms.
Officials have not indicated when evacuees can return home,
or whether further evacuations may be issued. Local officials first said just under 500 people had been evacuated but they later dropped those estimates to just over 100.

It was a gloomy Sunday as the whole area remain socked in with low clouds & fog, drizzle and scattered showers.
The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. The difference is that it will really warm up -- temperatures soar into the 80s by Tuesday. That mild and humid air mass will fuel afternoon thunderstorms.
By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain. It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
