Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE – The Chicago White Sox have selected infielder Angel Sanchez from the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of the Rule 5 Draft.

Sanchez, 29, hit .320 (110-344) with five home runs, 45 RBI and 48 runs scored over 107 games with Class AAA Oklahoma City in the Houston Astros organization last season.  He appeared in 78 games at shortstop, 23 at second base and three at third.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder was signed by the Angels as a minor-league free agent on October 26, 2012.

He currently is batting .344 (22-64) with two home runs and seven RBI over 17 games with Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Winter League.

Sanchez has appeared in 184 games over three major-league seasons with Kansas City (2006), Boston (2010) and the Astros (2010-11), hitting .255 (145-568) with 54 RBI and 67 runs scored.

The native of Humacao, Puerto Rico was selected by the Royals in the 11th round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft.  Sanchez is the first player selected by the White Sox in the major-league phase of the Rule 5 Draft since pitcher Jason Grilli in 2003.

With the move, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 38.
