Cities across south Georgia will soon have a few dozen new police officers on their streets.
The state's regional police academy in Savannah is scheduled to graduate 38 new police recruits Friday afternoon.
The new officers will be joining the law enforcement ranks in several cities and counties including police departments in Savannah, Brunswick, Kingsland, Ludowici and sheriff's offices in Camden and Wayne counties.
Roughly half of the graduates are going to work for the Savannah-Chatham County Metropolitan Police Department. Police officials say those officers still have six weeks of patrol school before they are sworn in and assigned to precincts.
