CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
It's the time of the year to enjoy the holidays, gifts, family and festive celebrations. Marissa Conrad of Time Out Chicago has events that celebrate this season in new and unique ways.
Whether you want to be hunting for gifts, preparing for parties, enjoying a little Jewish food or have fun with your family outside, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Don't miss out on these great events this weekend!
In this new holiday initiative at the Art Institute, visitors are invited to look for four gift-wrapped objects placed throughout three different galleries in the museum on Saturdays and Sundays until December 31. The first visitor to find an object can unwrap it to be the first to see one of the museum's latest acquisitions. The caveat—you don't get to keep the gift. This one's about the thrill of the hunt. Gifts to the City. Saturdays and Sundays through Dec 23 and every day from Dec 26–31 at 10:30am at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Impress your tree-hugging roomies with energy-efficient sweets. Executive pastry chef Kate Milashus spends the afternoon showing students the ropes on making no-bake desserts, including peanut butter bon bons, cheesecake lollipops, truffles and a chai latte martini. No-bake dessert class ZED451, 739 N Clark St (888 493-3451, zed451.com). 2pm; $20.
The Chicago Park District is trying to get you to shake cabin fever with this family-oriented day that includes exploring Northerly Island and its wildlife, ice sculpting, learning the science behind snow and—if there are a few inches of the white stuff—some snowshoeing. Polar Adventure Days Northerly Island, 1400 S Linn White Dr (312-742-7529, chicagoparkdistrict.com). Noon–4pm. Free.
Klezmer brunch not Jewish enough for you? City Winery ups the ante today with its Hanukkah Klezmer Brunch, featuring a buffet of blintzes, a build-your-own-latke bar, klezmer music (obvs) and Woody Allen in a dunk tank. 1200 W Randolph St (312-733-9463). 10am–1pm; $30.
