Flames ripped through the Knights of Columbus Hall in Long Beach, Long Island, early Monday morning.

The site, used post-superstorm Sandy to provide food and shelter for those displaced, was heavily damaged by a fire that broke out at about 2:40 a.m.

The Long Beach Fire Department sent 100 fire fighters to the scene. They were assisted by crews from Inwood, Island Park, Oceanside, Point Lookout, and Rockville Center.

The Nassau County fire marshal was also on the scene.

A man who spoke to reporters said he was in town for a Christmas party held at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 970 West Beech St. on Sunday.

There were no reports of injuries.

It is not clear what sparked the flames. The heaviest fire was concentrated in the back by the kitchen, fire officials said. They have not determined an exact cause but do not believe the fire is suspicious.
