Three motorists and a student were transported to a hospital this morning after a school bus carrying special-needs students rear-ended a vehicle, causing a chain-reaction crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
At about 8:10 a.m., the driver of the Orange County school bus, Janie Ruiz, failed to stop in time when traffic in front of her slowed down on northbound Hiawassee Road near State Road 408, according to troopers.
The school bus struck the back of a 1997 Toyota driven by Islene Pimentel Hildago, 30, of Orlando. Hildago's Toyota was pushed into the rear of a 2009 Audi; the Audi struck the back of a 2002 Ford; and the Ford struck the rear of another passenger car.
The FHP did not release the names of the other drivers or the people injured.
Ruiz, 48, was ticketed for careless driving.
