DELAND, Fla. -- A Volusia County woman faces multiple charges after authorities say she kicked her 66-year-old mother and punched an 8-year-old who tried to defend her.
Volusia County Sheriff's deputies say that later Sunday, Rebecca Jenks, 41, hit an inmate wearing handcuffs at the jail. Jenks is charged with battery, child abuse, battery on a person detained in jail and driving with a license that's been revoked.
Deputies say Jenks was heavily intoxicated Sunday. The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports her mother tried to calm her down, but Jenks started kicking her. When the child tried to defend the older woman, Jenks pushed her and punched her in the back of the neck.
After deputies managed to get her into a holding cell, she slipped out of handcuffs and slapped an inmate.
