CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A Dunbar High School varsity basketball player recovers Tuesday morning after he was shot on a school bus after a game.

The incident took place just before 8 p.m. Monday, at 62nd and Stewart in the Englewood neighborhood.

Police said three or four gunmen shot at the bus, hitting the 18-year-old in the left leg. He was the only victim, despite the bus being full of other student basketball players. Witnesses say at least six shots were fired.

Police said the bus driver drove the teen to Provident Hospital of Cook County, where he is now recovering from the injury.

Less than 24 hours after their teammate was shot, the team played a game against Curie. Many Dunbar parents remained fearful Tuesday night, not wanting to talk to our cameras.

"I'm scared for my son's life," one mother said, who did not want to reveal her identity. "Because he gets out of this game he's scared that he might get shot up again on a CPS bus."

The mother, who wants to remain anonymous, has a son who is also on the team and was on the phone with him at the time of the shooting.

"I heard 6 gun shots on the phone, I just knew my son got shot at and we got disconnected," she told FOX 32.

She was relieved to learn her son wasn't physically harmed.

"He couldn't even sleep last night," she said.

She hopes parents will keep a closer eye on their children.

"It starts from home, you can't blame the school we have to start at home first," she says. "Know what's going's just a game."

No one is in custody Tuesday night as Area South detectives are still investigating.
