Police are investigating after a 5-year-old boy was struck and killed on Tuesday afternoon in Decatur. Investigators are trying to determine if a FedEx truck or another car hit the boy.
The incident took place in gated apartment complex on Kensington Road in Decatur.
Shawn Brown says her 10-year-old nephew was walking with his 5-year-old friend, who police identified as Robert Love. The two had just gotten out of school and were walking to their apartments when the younger boy was hit and killed by a vehicle.
"He was hit by the guy's tire of the car, ran over twice both tires," said Brown.
DeKalb County Police Department spokesperson Mekka Parish said the incident is under investigation.
"At this point, our investigators are still trying to determine exactly what transpired -- how that collision occurred. If it in fact was that Fed Ex truck or possibly another car," Parish said.
Authorities said that the FedEx driver remained at the scene and was questioned. He has not been charged.
Police took the truck away for further investigation.
FedEx spokesperson Steve Barber released a statement saying, "We are heart-broken about this child and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. We are actively cooperating with authorities in their investigation."
