The suspected killer in this case has been charged with murder, but fled the area and remains in hiding, somewhere. This is a kidnapping and murder investigation that originated in Highland Indiana in June 2011.
The victim is 26-year-old Cynthia Funches, who was pregnant at the time she was reported missing. A few days later, her body was discovered in Chicago, she had been beaten to death, and her body had been left in a storage bin, in a garage at residence at 10038 South Normal, in Chicago.
The suspect has been identified by investigators with the Highland and Merrillville Police Departments as Isiah Barker, who was the victim's live-in boyfriend at the time. He was charged on November first of this year with one count of murder and one count of feticide, for the death of Funches unborn child. The investigation found they had been murdered in Highland, Indiana.
Less than a week later after the murder charges were filed, the FBI got involved after obtaining a warrant charging Barker with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Search efforts have been focused in and around Highland Indiana, where Funches and Barker lived, as well as in Chicago where Barker is believed to have fled. He still has family and friends in Chicago, and it's believed there's a good chance he may still be in the Chicago area. But, investigative leads have gone cold at this point, which is why we are asking for the public's help in locating him and brining him to justice.
