LONGWOOD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A black bear spotted in a Longwood tree has some homeowners on edge this morning.
Residents near the Alaqua Country Club golf course say they were startled to see the bear cross a street and go up a tree right after children came home from school.
"I'm not going to let the kids outside at night with the bear up there. Because it's so dark, you wouldn't be able to know if the bear came up to you or not," said Sue Silberbusch, who lives nearby.
"There hasn't been a people incident yet, but all it takes is one, and it's not going to be good," she said.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers say that unless a bear is injured, they typically don't relocate them. They discouraged feeding the bear and said residents should keep their garbage secured.
