Will County officials investigate alleged abuse of 2-month-old girl

HOMER GLEN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Child welfare officials are investigating allegations of abuse against a mother and a caregiver in connection with the Wednesday death of a 2-month-old Will County girl.
Aaliyah Gedminas apparently suffered some type of head trauma at her home in the 15500 block of Gougar Road near Homer Glen, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The home is located in an unincorporated area just west of the village of Homer Glen, maps show.
The Department of Children and Family Services first learned of the case when someone made a hotline call to the agency just after midnight on Dec. 7, spokesman Dave Clarkin said.
The girl's mother and a non-relative caregiver are both being investigated regarding allegations of abuse in her death, Clarkin said. DCFS has not had any previous contact with the family, and no other children live in the home.
Aaliyah, a 2-month-old, died at Lurie Children's Hospital at 7:53 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Authorities said the Will County Sheriff's Department is investigating, but a spokesman could not be reached late Wednesday.
