Fiesta Bowl hosts toy giveaway for military families

PHOENIX -

The Fiesta Bowl hosted a special event to benefit military families this holiday season on Saturday.

It's a common sight, kids walking up to see Santa, but wait until you hear who was behind this event.

It's a Christmas combination of sheriff's deputies, CVS pharmacies, and the Fiesta Bowl to benefit military families for the holidays.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio played along as one of Santa's helpers to show kids who have at least one parent serving overseas that they're not forgotten this time of year.

"We always get together every year to get toys and then we of course give the toys to the kids," said Arpaio.

"CVS has been the champion. This is the sixth year they've actually provided us with toys and they raised roughly about, I'd say, 10,000 toys this year," said Bill Stevenson with MCSO Youth Assistance Foundation.

There were 10 Naval families that were helped out at the toy drive.

"This is outstanding because it was a surprise that I got chosen," said Anita Lake-Warren with the U.S. NAVY.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Anita Lake-Warren brought her son Pierre to see Santa and
to make their Christmas a little brighter.

"It's good because I know there's a lot of resources out there that'll make sure he's taken care of while I'm gone and I just try to put the mission at hand in my mind when I'm out working and that way I don't worry about what's going on with him," said Lake-Warren.

The sheriff's Youth Assistance Foundation has at least two more toy drive distribution events before Christmas and you can still donate at any CVS pharmacy.
