Armed robber shot by police near Grand Avenue Kowalski's dies
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -
St. Paul police shot a Brooklyn Park man suspected of robbing the Kowalski's grocery store on Grand Avenue on Monday morning.
The Kowalski's was robbed at gunpoint at about 8:30 a.m. by a man who fled from the back of the store, according to St. Paul Police Sgt. Paul Paulos. Officers chased the suspect onto Ayd Mill Road, where he was shot and injured after showing a gun.
The suspect was taken to Regions Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office is working to identify him.
The two officers involved in the pursuit have been placed on paid administrative leave. They will be identified by Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Investigators are still working to determine how many shots were fired.
Ayd Mill Road was closed between Grand and Hamline avenues for the investigation.
