MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

A Minneapolis company that lost several employees and its owner in a mass shooting in September has released a statement expressing solidarity with the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The company, which lost five employees including the owner when a recently-terminated employee opened fire, released the following statement on Monday:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the community of Newtown, Connecticut.

We were horrified to hear about yet another senseless act of violence that robbed families of their loved ones.

We mourn the loss of the twenty young students, along with the seven adults who devoted themselves to enriching children's lives, even with their last heroic actions.

We stand in solidarity with all those who have lost loved ones in these unspeakable tragedies."

The effects of the school shooting have been felt across the nation, but locally the Anoka County Sheriff's Department confirmed to FOX 9 News that residents are acting by applying for gun permits of their own. A one-day record was set on Monday after 36 applications were filed.

Globally, messages of support and solidarity are still emerging. A school in Poland observed a moment of silence and people left candles and flowers outside the U.S. embassy in Warsaw, which lowered its flags to half-staff.
