SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Eric Tirado helped organize the Class of 1991's twentieth reunion a few years ago, so when he learned that the 6-year-old daughter of classmate was a victim in Friday's deadly shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, Tirado and several alumni from that class started raising money for the family.
Allison Wyatt was one of 20 first-graders killed at Sandy Hook Elementary. Her father, Ben Wyatt, attended Satellite High School. The word spread quickly among Ben's classmates, who raised $3,500 for Allison's funeral costs, over the course of just two days. It was all done through their twentieth reunion fan page on Facebook.
The money from the Facebook fund has been sent to Ben. Tirado said that Ben was very surprised and humbled by the donations his high school classmates were able to quickly raise.
Organizers have since shut down a PayPal account but are still accepting contributions to Allison's Memorial Fund.
Checks should be made to: Allison Wyatt Memorial Fund or, for the private family fund, Ben Wyatt as custodian. All checks can be sent to Steve DeMartino, c/o TransAct Technologies, Inc, One Hamden Center, 2319 Whitney Ave. suite 3B, Hamden CT, 06518.
